Professors Emeritus

Bergen honors select professors with emeritus or emerita status when they retire.  Through a process that is driven by peers and departmental committees, this status recognizes longtime contributions to the college by exceptional faculty with consistent contributions to the academic life and development of the college.  To date, 52 professors have received this honor.

A list of professors emeritus — along with information on the criteria and nomination process — can be found here:  Bergen Professors Emeritus

Through the BCC Professor Emeritus Association, these eminent educators stay involved with the college, often continuing their own research and writing.  In some cases, they continue to help current students, both in and out of the classroom.

In addition, the BCC Professor Emeritus Association organizes special events to keep emeriti faculty engaged with the college and with each other.  Key activities include:

ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE — Early in the Fall this event focuses on a specific area of academic program growth or development at Bergen, and includes updates from members of the college leadership.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON — Every Spring, the President, the VP of Academic Affairs, and the Faculty Association host a luncheon to welcome newly appointed emeriti professors to the association.

When you retire, there are many opportunities to stay connected to this significant educational institution. And through your ongoing involvement, you can continue to help the current students, as well as availing yourself of Bergen’s library and athletic facilities.

If you would like to become involved, or to be notified of future retired employee and college events, please email Marj Webster and Charlie McNerney at rea@bergen.edu.
